“Where are we?” Sara asked as she gazed at the few houses in the field of bright flowers.
“This, my friend, is where Night and I stay.” Crow said. “Also, our little buddies live here.”
“Little buddies?” Sara asked.
“Yeah. Our friends and of course…” He stopped to whistle. A few seconds afterwards, a pack of wolves started to run up to him. “These guys.”
“W-w-wolves!?” Sara fell down wide-eyed with her arms over her face to defend her.
“Whoa, Sara.” Crow said while standing Sara back up. “Look.” The wolves ran up to him and, to Sara’s surprise, started to lick him all over. “They’re harmless.”
“Umm…” Sara slowly reached out her hand. The white wolf, she assumed he was the leader, sniffed her hand then licked it happily.
“Well well.” Crow said. “It looks as if Duke likes you. This is surprising, especially since he almost bit Rem’s hand off when he tried to pet Duke.”
“B-bit…his hand off?” Sara was too frightened to move.
“Don’t worry. I knew he’d like you. You’re too cute not to like.” He said.
“What!?”
Crow talked on, ignoring Sara’s panics again. “Duke is the white wolf and the leader.” He pointed and named each of them. “Fawn,” He said, “is the tan one. She’s Duke’s mate. Hyde,” He pointed to the black one with the scratch down his eye, “is the next in command of the pack. He’s moodier than any female. I think he has a little PMS problem.” The dog snarled at him. “Oh, Hyde, you know I’m just joking. Girl,” He pointed to the grey one, “is the sweet one. Her and Fawn keep the men in order.” Fawn stuck her head up as if victorious. “Girl is also Hyde’s mate. I think she’s the only one who can put up with him, and then, of course, is Bear.” He pointed at the little brown and black pup. “He’s playful, but he’s also tough when he needs to be. He is Fawn and Duke’s kid.” He sighed. “There is one more. Sugar is the last one, and she is Hyde and Girl’s pup. She’s always playing out in the flowers though, chasing butterflies. She’s just as sweet as her mother, but she doesn’t really have much fight in her. She gets scared easily, but she’s never really frightened with Hyde around her. She’s a Daddy’s girl.”
“Wow. You really know them.” Sara said, now taking turns petting all of the wolves.
“Of course. I’ve raised them since birth. Except for Fawn and Hyde. I found Hyde being attacked be a bear, and Fawn was dieing of starvation. I found Hyde when he was a pup, but I only found Fawn a year ago. She fits in fine though. Girl and Duke are brother and sister. I found their mother. She was dieing, and I managed to save her unborn pups. I’ll never forget those eyes.” Crow said, spaced out, thinking about the past.
“Eyes?” Sara asked.
“Those eyes of thanks. She looked so happy that I saved her pups.” He said.
“You’ve got a good bond with animals.” Sara said.
“Only the wild ones.” He said with a wide grin.
“CROW!!!” A voice shouted, echoing across the field.
“Crap.” He said wincing.
“What?” Sara asked.
“It looks like Night has found out about me bringing you here.”
“He’s not gonna kill me is he?”
“I thought that would be doing you a favor.” Crow said.
“Actually…I’d rather not die. I was just a little mad.” She hugged Crow. “Please oh please oh please don’t let him kill me!”
Crow put his hand on her head then started to walk towards the houses. “Of course I won’t let him or anyone kill you. Didn’t you hear me when I said that you were too cute? Stay with the wolves.”
Sara fell to her knees. “I don’t wanna die.” The wolves surrounded her in a protective circle.
“Don’t worry.” Duke said. “If Crow wants you alive, we’ll keep you that way.”
“Yeah! I like you too!” Bear said.
Sara looked back and forth at Bear and Duke. “T-t-t-talking…wolves…”
“Yeah.” Girl said. “I don’t see why he didn’t let us introduce ourselves.”
Sara screamed.
“Well…maybe that’s why.” Hyde said. “She’s not used to talking animals, idiots.”
“Don’t worry.” Fawn said. “I’ll explain this. Rem, their little inventor, gave us the ability to talk.”
“Yeah.” Bear said. “The only one of us that doesn’t talk is…Sugar.”
“…Rem doesn’t understand why either. She doesn’t howl or bark either.” Hyde says. “She stays attached to me most of the time. The only sound she really makes is whimpering. I think she doesn’t talk because she doesn’t want to.”
“Wolves…are talking to me.” Sara said with a freaked out expression. “I’m going crazy.”
“Nope.” A voice said from behind.
She turned to see a boy about 16 standing behind her holding a pup. He wore a buttoned up lab coat, and he had blonde hair and blue eyes.
“I’m Rem…and you’re human. Why are you here?” He asked studying me.
“Crow brought me here.” Sara said.
“Oh.” Rem said. “So that’s why Night was shouting for him.” He placed the pup on the ground and watched it walk up to Hyde. Sara guessed that this was Sugar. Rem held his hand out, and Sara shook it. “You’re welcome to stay at my place, and don’t take it the wrong way. See, there are no girls here. There are few female immortals. All of us are immortals born from humans. We get the immortal part from an ancestor. The only pureblood is Night, and we don’t know anything really about his past. Anyway, all the boys here would probably love to get you into their place, even Crow. I know he seems nice, but he is one of the biggest perverts here.”
“It’s true.” Duke said.
“Night doesn’t care for anyone, and doesn’t have relationships anymore. I’m too in love with my research to be in love with anyone, so you are welcome to stay with me. Night would probably kill you in his sleep, maybe even while he’s awake, if you stay there.” Rem finished.
“Okay…thanks…but…I don’t have any of my things.” Sara said.
“Well, you look the same size as me. I’m a stick, and I have to...uh…” He blushed. “Make my own clothes.”
“What are you blushing for?” Sara asked.
“Well…It’s embarrassing.” Rem said.
“No. I think it’s good that a guy knows how to sew.” Sara said.
Rem grinned. “Thanks.” He studied me again. “Yeah, you can wear my clothes until we go get yours…By the way…What are you here for exactly?”
“Night wanted to kill me because I could see through some shield, but Crow didn’t want him to kill me.” Sara said.
“What!?” Rem’s eyes grew wide, and he studied me even more. “Amazing…A mere human…seeing through my shields? They must be malfunctioning.”
“Meh.” Sara said. “I don’t really know what is going on. This all seems like a crazy dream.”
“Well…If you get the choice, you might not want to stay with us.” Rem said.
“Why?” Sara asked.
“Every one of us immortals…are killers.” Rem said with a serious expression. “We’ve killed more humans than you can count, most of them innocent, just so we can take down one person. See, we are the villains here to humans, but our enemies our here. All we’re concerned about is getting through your stupid government so we can find who we came here to find. Human life means nothing to us.”
“That’s awful!” Sara said, “How could you!? Humans matter just as much as you do! Just because you’re immortals doesn’t mean you can treat us as if were inferior, whether we are or not!”
Rem studied me more, smiling. “Amazing how Night can find girls like you.”
“I thought you said—” Sara said, interrupted.
“He found a girl once like you, and I will leave it at that. It’s not my story to tell.” He said.
Sara looked around to realize that the wolves had left, then she glared back at Rem. “Why can’t you find this person without killing the innocent people!?”
“You don’t know our enemies very well. They use human shields. It wouldn’t matter if we wanted to or not. Plus, all we’re really concerned about is protecting our kind. We may be immortal, but there are certain ways to kill us. We can live forever as long as the dark immortals don’t get to us. They’re the evil immortals, but they’re not like us. They get their immortality from something worse. The person…more like thing…that we’re looking for is one of the most powerful of the dark immortals. He has his followers on earth, not all of them, but quite a few.” He looked at Sara, who still glared at him. “Listen; let’s say that humans are flowers. Mixed among the millions of flowers, are weeds. The weeds represent our enemies. The only way to get all of the weeds is to kill a few flowers as well. Plus, it’s faster to kill a few flowers and take out the weed then to look and look to find one little weed at a time, and it doesn’t matter how hard you try, a few flowers are going to get killed too. These weeds though, can spread if we don’t take care of them. They can spread and kill the trees, us, if we leave them be, and if they spread, then all of the flowers die. Understand. By saving our kind, by killing these dark immortals, we’re saving your kind as well. There will have to be sacrifices. We’ve lost some of our own as well.”
“I guess I understand,” Sara said, “but I’m still not pleased about it.”
“We actually don’t care if the humans live or die, but we didn’t come to kill all of the humans. We’ll kill all we need to if it makes the job easier though.” Rem said.
Sara crossed her arms. “You guys are awful!”
“I know, but just be thankful that we’re not the dark immortals. They’ve killed more than us. We may be bad guys here, but the dark immortals are far worse. They probably wouldn’t waste time killing off the humans bit by bit. No. They would destroy this entire planet.”
“So you’re all aliens? I must’ve fallen asleep on the bus again.” Sara said.
“No.” Rem said. “You aren’t asleep, but yes. I guess you could say that we’re aliens. Although, we don’t fly plates, and we aren’t little and green with big freaky black eyes. There may be some funky things out there, but I’ve never seen little green men. Anyway, if a dark immortal found out that you could see through our shields, they’d probably use you to find us and kill you. I don’t really know why they’re here, but hopefully we’ll find out soon what they want that’s on Earth.”
“Maybe they wanted to jam to some 80’s rock music.” Sara said.
Rem studied her again. “How does Night do it?”
“How do you know that you’re immortal if you’re born here?” Sara asked.
“With us human born immortals, we find out we’re immortal when we suffer through something that should kill us. Whenever we find out we’re immortal we stay that same age that we “died”, not really died, but…well…it’s complicated really. If one of us lives into old age without suffering something that will make us die, if we “die” of old age, than we stay that age. Even if we’re 100 something. Understand?” Rem asked.
“Kind of…” Sara said, still a little unsure.
“REM!!!” Night’s voice echoed again. “BRING HER HERE, NOW!!!”
“Oh boy.” Rem said. “Follow me.”
Sara followed him to the house in the center of the others while Rem walked slowly and uneasily.
When they entered the house, they saw Night and Crow sitting at the table. Crow wore a triumphant grin. He winked and flashed a thumbs up at Sara.
“Yes Night?” Rem asked.
“I’m sure that you’ve been explaining everything to her. That’s good. Maybe she won’t be bugging me so much with questions now.” Night said.
“So I get to live?” Sara asked.
Night glared at her for interrupting him. “Yes. You get to live, but only because Crow begged me to let you.”
Crow shook his head and pointed at Night. Without even looking at Crow Night said, “Put your hand down now, Crow.” Crow fought back a laugh and put his hand down.
“You will be staying in this house with me since Rem’s only other room was turned into his lab.” Night said.
“No way, Night!” Crow said, suddenly serious. “There have been nights where we’ve had to fight to wake you up because you start to attack one of us in your sleep.”
“Rem can place an alarm on her door. I’ll turn it on whenever I go to bed. If I touch the door at all, the alarm will go off and wake me up.” Night said, and then turned to look at Rem.
“I’ll have it done in less than an hour.” Rem said and walked off.
“You can borrow some of my clothes if you need to.” Crow said.
“That’s okay.” Sara said. “Rem said I could where his.” She glared at Night and then Crow. “I’m only staying here because it sounds better than being used and killed be the dark immortals.”
Night flashed a dark grin. “Don’t think that you’re any safer with us, girl.”
“Don’t call me girl! My name is Sara!” She said.
“Don’t listen to him.” Crow said. “You are safe with us.”
“Actually, with Bane, Don, and Ray coming back…” Night sighed. “I don’t think any girl is safe.”
“Oh yeah, the perverse trio.” Crow said while he rolled his eyes.
“Looks who’s talking, Crow. You’re practically their leader.” Night said.
“Only when I’m drunk.” Crow said. “If I were you, I’d stay away from me when I’m drunk, Sara.”
“I’ll remember that.” Sara said, not knowing what to think.
“Although, the best person to see drunk is Night.” Crow said.
Night glared at him. “Don’t you dare…”
“Night likes to drink at a karaoke bar so he can sing whenever he gets drunk.” Crow said. “He’s really good at singing though. I bet it’s only when he’s drunk.”
“I’m going to kill you, Crow.” Night said with a look like he was going to bite Crow’s head off.
“Karaoke King!” Crow started to shout as he got up and danced around the table. Sara laughed. Before she even realized it, Crow was on the floor, knocked out. Night picked him up and slung him on his shoulder.
“I’m going to put the 3-year-old to bed” He said as he carried Crow out the door.
Sara looked at her watch. She hadn’t realized that it was already so late. It was already the next day. With a yawn, she walked over to the couch, laid down, and went to sleep.

It's the second chapter! *Plays dramatic music* Have I captured you attention? Do you enjoy this story? ...Well...I hope so. It wouldn't do me much good if no one liked it. I asked a friend of mine to draw pics of the characters, but I'm thinking of taking a crack at drawing them myself. Look forward to those...if I ever get to a scanner.
